Humayun Ahmed responding to chemo

Dhaka, Oct 22—On the eve of his third chemo cycle which began on Oct 21, Humayun Ahmed's doctor had said the popular writer is responding to his treatment.

Humayun's publisher Mazharul Islam told bdnews24.com that a test result was very heartening. "The tumor marker table is decreasing which means he is improving," said the Anyaprokash chief executive. That was the only test that Humayun had taken before his 48-hour chemo cycle began.

The Anyaprokash chief executive said the writer's health has been 'quite well too'. "He continues to write regularly. And he has finished five or six episodes of his new book already."

The famous author has begun writing a new book 'Bright sun in New York's blue sky' ('New York-er neel akashe jhokjhoke rod'). Mazhar had told bdnews24.com that this book mainly consisted Humayun's experiences in New York.

Mazhar has been attending to the writer in New York since he arrived last month. He has been living with the writer at their three-bedroom apartment in Jamaica, New York along with Humayun's wife Meher Afroz Shaon and their two sons.

Humayun Ahmed flew to New York on Sep 13 after he was diagnosed with colon cancer during a regular check-up at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital earlier in September during a regular medical check-up.

The celebrated contemporary writer is undergoing treatment at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre at Manhattan where he will have to undergo at least one more chemo session, which is scheduled on Nov 8, before doctors decide on the next course of action.

"Well, the chemo takes some time to take effect. So it will probably be Nov 18 when doctors make their decision after thorough tests," said Mazhar.

Humayun's publisher said a new biographical book 'Rong Pencil' by the author would come out at the week-long book fair marking his birthday on Nov 13. This fair will also see publication of the fifth volume of Humayun's works. From:
