Indo-Bangla jt exercise in Sylhet begins Sunday

New Delhi, Oct 8 (newsbz24) – The special forces of Bangladesh and Indian armed forces will launch a joint exercise in Sylhet on Sunday.

An Indian Air Force plane with 25 soldiers of Indian Army landed at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet on Saturday.

About 40 soldiers of the Indian Army's elite units are likely to take part in the joint exercise, which will end on Oct 22. Bangladesh Army would deploy one of its para-commando units for exercise.

Indian Army officials in New Delhi said the exercise was the second of a series called Operation Sampriti, aimed at strengthening military-to-military ties between the two countries and enhancing professional expertise of the two armies.

The first phase of Operation Sampriti was held at Jorhat in north-eastern Indian state of Assam from Nov 1-4, 2010.

Military ties between Bangladesh and India received a boost when Indian Army chief General V K Singh visited Dhaka last June.
