Indian court orders deportation of 2 Bangladeshis


Dhaka, Nov 20 - A court in New Delhi has ordered deportation of a Bangladeshi woman and her daughter after clearing them of charges of a 2003 robbery.

Additional sessions judge Sanjay Garg, however, found them guilty of residing illegally in east Delhi and sentenced them to prison terms of 11 months and three days on Saturday.

"For the offence punishable under the Foreigners Act, she is sentenced to the period of imprisonment already undergone by her.

 She is also held liable to pay fine of Rs 500 and in default, to undergo simple imprisonment for 15 days," the judge was quoted as saying by the state-run Press Trust of India (PTI).

Garg also set off the sentence against their imprisonment during trial and ordered Tihar Jail authorities and Delhi Foreigner Regional Registration Office to arrange for quick deportation, the agency said.

The judge also asked the authorities to forward the court order to the Foreigner Regional Registration Offices for the deportation.
